Issue with Malcolm's eyebrows

Hi,

Has anyone ever had Malcolm's eyebrow controls stop working mid-shot?  Luckily I'm not far into the shot, but I don't want to continue with him if I can't figure it out.  One second they're working fine, and then the next they won't move at all, as if they're no longer rigged.

I'd love your input.

Thanks!

  1. Hey Jamie! What do you mean specifically? Have the controls disappeared? Is the mesh just not responding when the controls are moved?

  2. Hey Jamie! I have had the eyebrow problem with Malcolm where the mesh doesn't respond when the controls are moved. If that's the case then switching to Maya 2016 worked for me. Otherwise an old easy trick helped- reloading the reference of Malcolm. I hope this might help.

  4. Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. Cody, yeah, the mesh wouldn't move with the controls as if the rig was broken.
Kristen, thanks - I tried 2015 and 2016, and the same thing would happen. And this was all with Malcolm 2.0, by the way. I've resorted to using the original Malcolm in my old Maya 2010, and everything is behaving for now. If it happens again, I'm going to go back to my trusty Bishop rig and hope for the best lol.

  5. Oh, and Ellen hasn't commented yet, but I know she's having it worse than I am. The same thing is happening to her. Everything will be fine, and then mid-shot, the controls for the brows stop working. I believe she is referencing Malcolm in hers, and I wasn't. At a loss at this point!

  6. Dangit, I'm sorry, I've had the controls disappear on me before, but not the problem you're describing. I would try messing with your reference, changing the scale of the eyebrows, maybe scaling the entire eye, saving it, then reloading in your scene. I would also try loading your scene in a different year of Maya. Sometimes the versions don't play well with new rigs until all the bugs get pushed out. Hope that helps!
